The judicial system is a complex network of state and federal courts which deal with legal cases. These courts have four key roles in society: to represent people who are harmed by others, to settle disputes between private parties, to interpret the law, and to apply the law.

The Judicial System & Applying The Law

Most situations in the judicial system in the United States is a three-part process. In the first stage, an attorney files a complaint with a court stating that someone has violated their laws. The accused person will then be notified and given time to respond. If the complaint is not resolved, it will move on to the next stage where evidence will be gathered and presented to a judge or jury.
